1. A Good Year (2006)

Best Movies On Disney+

A perfect comedy when you want to think about travels, summer, relaxation, and summer loves. Without the loudness of today’s comedies, A Good Year, starring Russell Crowe and Marion Cotillard, has disappeared from HBO, where it was available for a long time, and has appeared on Disney+.

Directed by Ridley Scott and filmed on his property in Provence, which he owned for 15 years, as well as its surroundings, the comedy A Good Year was a box office failure despite being a gem of a film.

An investment banker inherits his uncle’s vineyard in southern France and is obligated to return to Provence, where he spent much of his childhood… But what was supposed to be a short return turns into a summer full of memories, incredible landscapes, and summer romances.

2. West Side Story (2021): Best Movies On Disney+

With six Oscar nominations, including Best Film and Best Director, a film by Steven Spielberg is a must-see. Even if you’re not a fan of musicals, this remake immerses you in 1960s New York in a Romeo and Juliet-type story. The dance scenes are so fluid and well-choreographed that you feel like you’re part of the movement. Some adjectives for West Side Story: passionate, mesmerizing, captivating.

You can watch West Side Story exclusively on Disney Plus Romania: It is one of the Best Movies On Disney+

3. The French Dispatch – the art film of 2021

Best Movies On Disney+

Many of Wes Anderson’s films can be found on Disney+. If it doesn’t sound familiar, you’ve probably seen at least one of his films: The Grand Budapest Hotel, Moonrise Kingdom, or Rushmore.

The film has been described as a love letter to journalism and is based on three parallel stories inspired by articles from The New Yorker magazine.

The cast is simply incredible, from the main actors to the supporting ones, all of them are top-notch: Benicio del Toro, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Lea Seydoux, Frances McDormand, Timothee Chalamet, Jeffrey Wright, Mathieu Amalric, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Edward Norton, Willem Dafoe, Saoirse Ronan, etc…  Watch The French Dispatch trailer.

With a dry humor that feeds from the same source as Bill Murray’s, who is also present in The French Dispatch, Anderson’s latest film tells miniature stories, working them like a jeweler or an author crafting a book. Not to mention the film’s visuals, which leave you stunned. It’s like standing in front of a marvelous display in an artisanal confectionery. In other words, the film is as delicious as a fine French pastry and as finely crafted as a piece of jewelry. Savor The French Dispatch here, from the comfort of your own home…

4. Nightmare Alley (2021)

nightmare alley filme 2021
Continuing the Disney+ film list with a neo-noir with an outstanding cast, from Bradley Cooper and Cate Blanchett to Rooney Mara and Willem Dafoe, directed by Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water, Pan’s Labyrinth, Pacific Rim). The story can only be dark: Cooper’s character rises rapidly from a laborer to a medium in luxurious hotels, relying on deception and a deep understanding of human nature. However, it didn’t captivate us as much as del Toro’s latest film, The Shape of Water. You can find it on Disney Plus, just like The Shape of Water. It is one of the Best Movies On Disney+

5. Bad Times At The El Royale (2018): Best Movies On Disney+

A thrilling film with an equally great cast, including Jeff Bridges, Cynthia Erivo, Dakota Johnson, Jon Hamm, and Chris Hemsworth. It’s a smartly crafted film, both in terms of the screenplay and style, delivering quality entertainment. So, get ready with popcorn, settle comfortably on the sofa, and open Disney Plus here.

6. Battle of the Sexes (2017)

A sports drama that is much more than that; it’s a film about a memorable match from the world tennis history. A match outside the major tournaments but no less important. The so-called “Battle of the Sexes” was played in the ’70s and sought to establish equality between women and men in the sports world.

It’s an inspirational film that exudes energy, entertaining as well as emotional. Quite a rare combination in today’s film landscape  So, our recommendation for The Battle of The Sexes: a must-see.

The match was played between tennis player Billie Jean King, impeccably portrayed by Emma Stone, and 55-year-old tennis player Bobby Riggs, played by Steve Carrell. In fact, the entire cast is impeccable, including Sarah Silverman, Bill Pullman, Elisabeth Shue, and others.

The Battle of The Sexes is on Disney Plus Romania.

7. The Last Duel

The Last Duel

An extraordinary story, excellently told and performed. We are still under its impression even though some time has passed since we saw it. Ridley Scott’s film, adapted from a real event with a screenplay by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, is a medieval story, but truer than ever.

A woman claims she was raped by her husband’s best friend, Jean de Carrouges. But when no one believes her accusation, her husband challenges his friend to a duel, the last legal duel in the country’s history. Matt Damon plays the lead role alongside Adam Driver and Jodie Comer, with Ben Affleck in a supporting role. The film is directed by none other than Ridley Scott.

The story is told, in turn, from the perspective of the three main characters: Jean de Carrouges, Jacques Le Gris, and Marguerite de Carrouges, in the style of Akira Kurosawa’s Rashomon. While at first the story seems quite simple, as presented by Jean de Carrouges, it gains new nuances and truths as we see the other two perspectives, those of Carrouges’s friend and his wife. Though not a thriller and told leisurely, The Last Duel will hold you in front of the screen. In the end, you’ll be amazed by this finely polished and captivating cinematic gem.

Available in Romania on Disney+.

8. Underwater (2020)

If you like horror films with terrifying creatures, then we recommend a lesser-known horror sci-fi film.

If you liked Alien, there’s a good chance you’ll like Underwater too. Except the action doesn’t take place in space but in the depths of the Mariana Trench. This is how this film begins, with a sense of claustrophobia weighing down on you. Who will escape this race against time for survival among the 6 crew members? In an underwater drilling center, an earthquake nearly destroys the entire research base. Kristen Stewart and Vincent Cassel are two of the survivors who struggle to find a way to the surface before the center collapses. However, the survivors are unaware that they are facing something else: a hideous monster that seemed undisturbed in the depths until the earthquake…

9. The Call of The Wild (2020)

The Call of The Wild (2020)

An adventure film starring the most renowned actor of adventure movies: Harrison Ford.

Admittedly, he’s no longer in his youth, not even in his second :), but The Call of The Wild is worth watching for the sensation of freedom, the spirit of adventure, and its humanity and empathy. It’s a fairly conventional film (actually an adaptation of a novel), but its downside is the excessive use of computer-generated images, including those of the main character, the dog Buck.

Buck is a huge St. Bernard with a big heart, very gentle, who lives with his owners somewhere in California. However, one night he is kidnapped by ruthless thieves who sell him for profit. Consequently, Buck ends up pulling a mail sled for a postman in Canada, in a super distant, wild, and freezing region. This marks the beginning of Buck’s adventure, which will eventually intersect with the destiny of John Thornton (Harrison Ford). You can find it on Disney Plus.

10. Hamilton (2020)

Hamilton (2020)

If you need a dose of energy to last you for a whole month, Hamilton is perfect. It’s a Disney production that films the Broadway show Hamilton, which has become a cultural phenomenon in the United States in recent years. Like the show itself, the film has received numerous accolades from critics and is the most-watched film of 2020 on streaming platforms.

The songs, performances, and the entire stage movement are absolutely infectious. There’s so much talent per square inch on stage that it’s very likely you’ll find yourself singing and dancing during the film. That’s exactly what happened to us. From pop music, hip-hop, rap, to R&B, the musical Hamilton will probably remain the most influential musical of our generation.

What’s the idea behind Hamilton? It’s the story of the founders of the United States, from George Washington to Thomas Jefferson, but it centers around a less known figure among them, Alexander Hamilton.”
