Michael Fassbender Returns To The Big Screen

Michael Fassbender Returns To The Big Screen

One of our favorite actors, Michael Fassbender, who has rightly been compared to Daniel Day-Lewis and Marlon Brando, and who you saw last month in David Fincher’s The Killer, is set to hit the big screen next week . It’s about the comedy Next Goal Wins, which we say will be the movie to see this holiday season. Here are the list of the Michael Fassbender Returns To The Big Screen.

Until then, we thought to remember the roles of the British actor with German and Irish origins. You must have seen him in many of his roles.

Fassbender is loved by the film world because of his versatility, which gives you the feeling that he can play in the most authentic way any role he gets. Beyond the very different typologies, it conveys control, coolness, but also mystery, intensity, fragility and shrewd intelligence. Here are some of the roles and typologies interpreted:

Hunger (2008) – The Role Of An Irish Prisoner

The role that made him stand out was the one in Steve McQueen’s film, Hunger, in which Fassbender is an Irish prisoner on hunger strike. In Hunger, Fassbender was already 31 years old.

Fish Tank (2009) – British Ghetto Worker

Fish Tank (2009) – British Ghetto Worker

Immediately after Hunger, he is cast in Fish Tank, a very successful film about life in the British ghettos. Fassbender stars as an opportunistic laborer in a dangerous & sexual romp with his mistress’s teenage daughter.

Inglorious Basterds (2009): Michael Fassbender Returns To The Big Screen

In the same year, he starred in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds. Surely you remember the pedantic British lieutenant (Michael Fassbender) who accidentally exposes his team.

Jane Eyre (2011)

We arrive in 2011, when Michael is unstoppable. First of all, he plays Rochester in the classic and romantic adaptation of Charlotte Bronte’s book, Jane Eyre. In this film he plays the most fragile and sensitive role of all, having a great chemistry with the actress Mia Wasikowska.

X-Men: First Class (2011) – Nazi hunter and mutant

Next comes the role of Magneto in the hit film X-Men: First Class, where he plays, together with James McAvoy, the role of a tough and unscrupulous and nuanced character.

A Dangerous Method (2011) – Fassbender as psychoanalyst Carl Jung

Then David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method starring Carl Jung in a meeting with Freud, played by Viggo Mortensen, and Sabina Spielrein, one of the first female psychoanalysts. Sabina is played by Keira Knightley, with whom Michael does not have an acting chemistry as successful as that with Wasikowska.

But he still manages to be convincing enough in the role of Jung, expressing his moral dilemma: the choice between family or adventure, to give expression to primal instincts or to suppress them.

Shame (2011) – The Role Of A Sex Addict

The director who established Fassbender, Steve McQueen, gives him the main score again, in Shame. It is about the role of a sex addict. The film, in which Fassbender stars alongside Carey Mulligan, is devastatingly real and raw.

Prometheus (2012) – Michael Fassbender Returns To The Big Screen

Prometheus, Ridley Scott’s prequel to the famous Alien, is a horror, action and sci-fi film, in which some metaphysical-ontological questions about our meaning on Earth, the need to know your creator, etc. find their place, but at a fairly superficial level.

The only thrill of moral strangeness and alienation the film manages to convey is thanks to the robot David, played by Michael Fassbender. Next to “played” you can add any superlative adjective, you can practice as much as you want. Michael Fassbender has the most interesting lines and, to top it off, is the most complex character even though he’s only an android: capable of loyalty and cold calculation, incredibly lucid and cynical, but also capable of a kind of childlike emotion and delight.

12 Years A Slave (2013) – Unscrupulous Slave Master

A visual artist who won the prestigious Turner Prize for a video installation, Steve McQueen moved his provocative pieces from the white walls of art galleries to the darkness of cinemas. Here, he populated these tracks with an increasing number of A-listers, from fetish actor Michael Fassbender (in his third collaboration with McQueen) in 12 Years A Slave to Brad Pitt.

Steve Jobs (2015) – As The Visionary Entrepreneur

Michael Fassbender Returns To The Big Screen

You definitely didn’t miss Michael Fassbender as Steve Jobs. The film is a collection of memorable lines (there are no “filler” lines), it’s dense and demanding, for the actors and the audience. Steve Jobs is an esthete, a genius of manipulation, a visionary who understood that a successful big picture is built from well thought out details and often nothing more.

The story of Steve Jobs is beautifully told: an imperfect man who created an imperfect world, which is (the pinnacle!) our world, imperfect beings. With one exception. Michael Fassbender.

After all those roles and a month ago’s The Killer, Fassbender is set to next be seen next week in the comedy Next Goal Wins, in which he plays a soccer coach trying to get a floundering team to qualify for the World Cup. Watch the Next Goal Wins trailer here. We won’t miss it!

Meanwhile, Fassbender still has six new films in the pipeline.
