π¬ Personal Insights
The essence of unseen terror translates into a frightening concept, which Bird Box displays excellently as a psychological thriller. Unlike most horror movies, the film relies on tension and psychological horror over jump scares making it much more similar to The Road (2009) than other horror flicks.
By showing Malorie’s desperate attempt to navigate a river with two blindfolded children as well as the story of how her world fell apart, two timelines seamlessly integrate making for an engaging film.
The creatures being unseen adds to their eeriness. It also aids in filling the gaps that are present. There are some smart choices which further adds to the mystery of the story. The ending does trigger some arguments, but it nonetheless provides bittersweet hopeβfor all, quite an interesting conclusion.
