This is not just a love story; it is a captivating tale of human emotions. Every scene captivates the audience on an individual level, and every long scene with subtle expressions of the characters feels personal. Exarchopoulos and Seydous Seydoux’s chemistry is so strong that it makes their relationship very bittersweet and real. The way the film portrays sex is raw. Exposing sex so broadly caused controversy, and so much praise, especially in LGBTQ+ spectrum, but it is undeniable that the conversations were never and will never be about LGBTQ+ representation in the cinema.
Blue is the Warmest Color film shifted paradigms when it comes to portray the LGBTQIA spectrum in cinema, it earned the shock and praise for same sex relationships and depicts the relationship with such rawness. Besides the controversy, the film is a pioneer because it focuses on young love, heart break and self-discovery. The film even brings up the male gaze debate when compared do other films. Even however the film is used by many for crithism of how the director shot the intimate scenes, that level of intimacy does not dismiss it’s contribution to queer cinema.
