Prey for the Devil

Prey for the Devil

🔍 Synopsis

In Prey for the Devil, Sister Ann is introduced as a gifted young nun with a troubled past who has the exceptional ability to connect with individuals who harbor demonic spirits. Ann is the first woman ever to be trained in the practice of exorcism, which the Catholic Church traditionally restricts to priests; this is achieved after she demonstrates astounding spiritual gifts.

Ann’s encounter with Natalie, a young girl whose possession is disturbingly linked to Ann’s childhood, propels Ann’s drive even further. The more she learns, the more horrifying the battle she faces becomes; she has to fight against evil spirits while waging a separate war against the rigid and unyielding doctrines of the Church.

🏆 Awards & Wins

Although Prey for the Devil has not been in the limelight for major awards, it has captured the attention of many for its unusual twist on classic exorcism films, particularly in the case of a female lead assuming a role typically played by men in film, and within the context of religion.

Prey for the Devil looks to reinvent the exorcism horror genre by having a woman take center stage in the Church’s struggle against demonic possession. Jacqueline Byers does well as the headline actress, struggling with emotional trauma and her character’s spiritual responsibilities.

At the same time, the movie makes a remark about the mental suffering caused by trauma, merging supernatural horror with a more personal conflict: a blend that will resonate with viewers who enjoy psychological driven horror.
