5. The Idol – HBO și HBO Max

We open the list of new series with an HBO series. After creating the phenomenal series Euphoria, also for HBO, Sam Levinson (son of director Barry Levinson), brings us a new series, co-created with pop star The Weeknd, also known as Abel Tesfaye.

The Idol, which stars Johnny Depp’s daughter Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, and centers on the story of a young pop star who begins a relationship with a guru and cult leader. It’s been on HBO for a few days, but only the first episode.

Although criticized, especially because it starts very well but fails to maintain the same level, we say it’s worth a try. The performances are very good, and not just from the main actors, Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd – you will recognize many other excellent actors. The social criticism is frothy, as are the scenes. We’ll see if we change our minds after the second episode onwards So far it’s 4 out of 5 stars from us.
