Movies to Watch in the Coming Months: Unmissable Films Coming Your Way! 2023 is shaping up to be a great time for movies. With a wide variety of genres and tones to choose from, there’s sure to be something for everyone. Here are a few of the most anticipated upcoming movies to watch:
1. A haunting in Venice – Release on September 15, 2023
The sequel to “Murder on the Orient Express” (2017) and “Death on the Nile” (2022), both films by Kenneth Branagh, largely responsible for the revival of the detective genre on the big screen, is coming to theaters very soon.
“A haunting in Venice” is, of course, based on Agatha Christie’s novel “Hallowe’en Party.” Hercule Poirot’s role this time is to solve a murder during a seance. Check out the trailer for “A haunting in Venice.”
Kenneth Branagh returns as detective Hercule Poirot, and the star-studded cast includes Jamie Dornan, Tina Fey, Michelle Yeoh, French actress Camille Cottin (you might not know her by name, but you’ll surely recognize her in the film), and others.
We await this supernatural thriller in Romania, in theaters on September 15, 2023. Until then, you can refresh your memory with Hercule Poirot played by Branagh in “Murder on the Orient Express” (2017) and “Death on the Nile” (2022) on Disney+.
2. Challengers – Release on September 15, 2023
The new film by Luca Guadagnino, known for his unconventional love films like “Call Me by Your Name,” “I Am Love,” “Bones and All,” will also hit Romanian theaters on September 15, 2023, on the same day as its international release.
The movie stars Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist in the lead roles and promises to be Guadagnino’s most American film yet. Still a film that puts seduction and love in the foreground, like his previous works, but with more emphasis on fun and cinematic entertainment – at least that’s what the trailer suggests. “Challengers” centers around a love triangle, led by Zendaya as a Grand Slam-winning tennis player.

3. Golda, starring Helen Mirren – August 25: Upcoming Movies To Watch
n Golda, Helen Mirren portrays Israel’s Iron Lady, Golda Meir. Born in Kiev, she emigrated to the USA and then to Palestine before the creation of the State of Israel. Golda went on to lead a kibbutz and later served as the Prime Minister of Israel for 5 years, from 1969 to 1974.

Golda will have its international premiere on August 25, while the premiere in Romania has not been announced yet.
4. Drive-Away Dolls – International Premiere on September 21
Ethan Coen, known for films such as The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, Hail, Caesar!, True Grit, Burn after Reading, No Country for Old Men, and many other great movies, has prepared a new dramatic comedy production, a specialty of the Coen Brothers, featuring trendy actors like Margaret Qualley, Pedro Pascal, Matt Damon, and Beanie Feldstein. We are eagerly awaiting Drive-Away Dolls because we haven’t seen anything from the Coen Brothers in five years, since The Ballad of Buster Scruggs… The film will have its world premiere on September 21, 2023.
5. Poor Things – directed by Yorgos Lanthimos – Release on October 13, 2023
The trailer for Poor Things, the latest film by Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos, looks great If his name sounds familiar but you’re not sure where you know him from, think of The Favourite, The Lobster, The Killing of a Sacred Deer.
In his new film, Poor Things, a romantic SF and surreal comedy, stars Emma Stone (again, after The Favourite), Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, and Margaret Qualley.
The international premiere will take place on September 8, 2023, and in Romania on October 13, 2023.
6. Killers of the Flower Moon – starring Leonardo DiCaprio, in theaters from October 20, 2023
Killers of the Flower Moon is an American crime film directed by Martin Scorsese, with a screenplay by Eric Roth and Scorsese. Eric Roth has received 6 Oscar nominations over time, for screenplays such as Forrest Gump, Munich, A Star is Born, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Dune (2021).
Based on the best-selling non-fiction book of 2017, Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI, by David Grann, the film stars Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead role, and also as a co-producer.
He plays alongside Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, Lily Gladstone, and Brendan Fraser. The film marks the seventh collaboration between Scorsese and DiCaprio, as well as the eleventh collaboration between Scorsese and De Niro. Watch the trailer for Killers of the Flower Moon.
Killers of the Flower Moon is set in 1920s Oklahoma and depicts the serial murder of members of the Osage Nation, a community rich in oil – a series of brutal crimes that came to be known as the Reign of Terror.
With a generous budget of $200 million, Killers of the Flower Moon is an Apple TV production but will be released in Romanian theaters from October 20.
7. The Killer – a NETFLIX film, to be released on November 10, 2023
The Killer is a thriller on Netflix, starring Michael Fassbender and Tilda Swinton in the lead roles. After remaining in an uncertain state for 10 years, the screenplay was bought by Netflix from Paramount, with David Fincher as the director. Surely, you have seen at least one film by David Fincher, such as Gone Girl, Mank, The Social Network, Zodiac, Se7en.
Fassbender will play the role of a serial killer who begins to question his morality… although his clients still need his services. It has been a while since we saw Fassbender in a film, but you surely remember him from 12 Years a Slave, Steve Jobs, Macbeth, Inglourious Basterds, Jane Eyre, A Dangerous Method, and many other titles. The screenplay was written by Andrew Kevin Walker, the screenwriter of Se7en. We think there are enough reasons to eagerly await this Netflix film.
The Killer from Netflix is based on the French graphic novel of the same name by author Alexis Nolent, signed under the pseudonym Matz, and artist Luc Jacamon. The first volume was published in 1998, and the most recent one in 2017.

8. Jeanne du Barry – in theaters from November 10, 2023
Johnny Depp is preparing to enter theaters in the role of none other than King Louis XV :). And we are convinced that he will easily transition from the role of a pirate to that of a king.
The film is called Jeanne du Barry and follows the life, rise, and fall of King Louis XV’s favorite, Jeanne du Barry. She is portrayed by French actress Maiwenn, who is also the director of the film. Passions, intrigues, scandals – all the ingredients of life at the royal court of Versailles and, consequently, of this film. Watch the trailer for Jeanne du Barry.
Jeanne du Barry opened this year’s Cannes Film Festival on May 16, then premiered in theaters in many countries before reaching Netflix. However, it will arrive on Netflix only in 2024. It will enter theaters in Romania on November 10, 2023.
The production is the sixth feature film by French actress and director Maiwenn, known for “Polisse,” which won the Jury Prize at Cannes in 2011.
9. Napoleon – November 24, 2023:Upcoming Movies To Watch
Ridley Scott’s new film, starring Joaquin Phoenix as Napoleon. And with that, we believe we’ve said all there is to say to convince you to see it Take a look at the trailer for Napoleon. The world premiere will take place on November 22, and it will enter theaters in Romania on November 24, 2023.
10. Priscilla, by Sofia Coppola – to be released internationally on October 6, 2023
Finally, we will see a new film by Sofia Coppola, known for some of the most sensitive and profoundly feminine films: Lost in Translation, The Virgin Suicides, Marie Antoinette.
In 2023, she will release a film written and directed by her, Priscilla – about the relationship between Priscilla and Elvis Presley, based on the biography “Elvis and Me,” written by Priscilla Presley and Sandra Harmon. The film is scheduled for release in October 2023.
