The last part of the long-awaited trilogy, Venom 3: The Last Dance, has finally been released, and the audience was looking forward to the closing of the said trilogy. Expectations were high with hopes placed on the bonds between Venom and Spider-Man. However, does it live up to the expectations? Let’s get into the details.
Plot Overview
A new film indicates for the first time to the audience a new major negative character from the universe of the symbiotes: Knull – the king of the symbiotes. The film also sheds light on the reasons of Knull’s obsession with annihilating Venom. But the film fails to create much of an impact, especially in the first half. It also suffers from slow pacing; some irrelevant segments, such as a fight between Venom and street thugs and a strange family road trip, do not towards the story’s progression.
The second part, thank God, injects some urgency back in this storyline and the climax makes up for some of these shortfalls in the film. The exchanges sometimes come across as sharp and witty, especially Venom’s dialogue with Eddie Brock. Their chemistry and hindi dubbing to good effect provide comic relief.
Knull: A Disappointing Villain
Knull, whom viewers were told will be the main strength of the film, is also quite disappointing. He is rarely seen, and the character’s development is practically non-existent. Actually, the trailers demonstrated all that the film had to offer concerning Knull, so viewers are hardly eager for anything new. Those hoping for a great villain will probably not be satisfied.
Positives and Negatives
Strengths:
- Venom and Eddie’s dynamic continues to charm.
- The satirical humor and witty dialogues work well.
- Hindi dubbing enhances the experience for Indian audiences.
- The climax adds much-needed energy to the film.
Weaknesses:
- A slow first half with unnecessary filler scenes.
- Poor development and minimal screen time for the main villain, Knull.
- The overall storyline lacks depth and impact compared to the previous films.
Spider-Man Connection?
Numerous fans were looking forward to any Vemon and Spider-Man interaction. Possibly a fight, a team up, or even a solid credits scene at least. Unfortunately, the film does not seem to take advantage of this chance. Hence, it leaves the audience unsatisfied.
Final Verdict
As you get ready to watch Venom 3, do not get your hopes up. Sure, a laugh is had and action is decent, but it is lacking in plot and character arcs. There is also a lot of backstory to the first two movies and the spiderman related post credits that any fan of the series ought to know to get through the story.
Rating: 2.5/5
Stick around for the mid-credit and post-credit scenes, which may hint at what’s next for the Venom universe. While the trilogy ends on a lackluster note, fans can hope for better things in the future.
